A Little About Myself...

Hi, my name is Wendy (occasionally WendyWanda). I've always had a passion for all things language since childhood. Back then, I dabbled in short stories, poetry, and journaling at a young age. My first work was a haiku at 4 years old and I later won a writing award in 6th grade for a statewide contest! With encouragement from family and friends, I began writing professionally in 1998.

During college, I decided to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Literature and Linguistics. However, following graduation, I got into the field of public safety. And even though I had become more of a technical writer, I continued to fuel my love of communications through our department's Public Information Office. I feel knowledge is the best line of defense in surviving anything Life throws at you, so I thought I would be able to use my skills to help educate others. Many interviews and educational pieces later, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in public affairs.

I became a public information officer for a local police department where I handled crisis communications. I later moved to a state department where my focus has been on outreach, marketing, media relations, and emergency communications.

On the rare occasions I'm not working, I enjoy writing articles and books, photography and videography, and bullet journaling. I miss having more creative avenues, so I would like to shift my focus from technical writing to storytelling as I move toward my next chapter.

“I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.”
